Sustainable Landscaping Consulting
Do you want to do it yourself, making your yard a haven for bees, butterflies and birds, but don’t know where to start? I can help. During a site visit I’ll look over potential problems and opportunities with you, listen to your wants and needs, and then develop a plan that is custom built for your property. What I provide you in the end will depend on your specific needs, but may include:
- basic site design
- a plan for preparing your site for planting
- plant lists for each bed
- information on how to control weeds
- maintenance guidelines specific for your needs
I can work side-by-side with you on the project, to teach you how to do the work most efficiently or to help you with technically challenging bits.

Natural Areas Assessment and Planning
A Site Assessment is an in-depth look at the history and ecology of a site. This report will typically include:
- researching the ecological history of the site
- mapping management units with GIS software
- assessing current site descriptions
- recommending management goals.
A Floristic Quality Assessment requires an inventory of every plant species on the site, which is the best way to understand the condition of the natural community, and providing us a score, known as a Floristic Quality Index, to compare to other natural areas, and set restoration priorities.
A Natural Areas Management Plan can be a relatively simple guide for safe and efficient practices for a single unit on small property. For more complex sites, larger sites, or public lands, a management plan typically includes delineating management units, setting management priorities, and providing specific management recommendations and timelines.
